SUPREME CALAMITAS?!!

SUPREME CALAMITAS.
“Do you enjoy going through hell?”

Supreme Calamitas is a post-Moon Lord boss that can be fought after defeating Jungle Dragon, Yharon, and intended to be fought around the same time as the Exo Mechs. She is currently one of the most challenging bosses in the Calamity Mod.

Defeating her will cause the lookalike Town NPC named the Brimstone Witch to move in, granting players access to the Enchantment mechanic.

Spawn:

Supreme Calamitas does not spawn on her own and requires the player to summon her with the Altar of the Accursed, which uses Ashes of Calamity or the Ceremonial Urn; upon using said items at the Altar, the screen will darken, shake, and become tinted red before Supreme Calamitas herself appears above the Altar. The Ceremonial Urn is reusable, so Supreme Calamitas may be summoned any number of times. When Supreme Calamitas is fully summoned, she will laugh devilishly instead of using the regular boss roar. Supreme Calamitas can be fought in any biome at any time.

If the Brimstone Witch NPC is currently alive in the world, she will disappear when Supreme Calamitas is summoned.

Behavior:

Upon spawning, Supreme Calamitas will create a 159×159 (inner available area is 157×157) square arena made of mostly unbreakable Arena Blocks. Leaving it will cause Supreme Calamitas to enrage, significantly increasing the velocity of all of her attacks and giving her 99% irreducible damage reduction.

Supreme Calamitas has several powerful attacks that she will switch between in a consistent cycle. She always remains either directly above or to the side of the player, only breaking position during Bullet Hell phases or during her devastating dash attacks.

Attack Cycle

Supreme Calamitas has a constant attack cycle which only interrupts when she is not attacking at all. Neither going through bullet-hell phases, nor switching to her second phase changes the current position in this cycle. It repeats once it is finished.

The attack cycle (starting as soon as the first Sepulcher is summoned):

• Shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts

• Shoots a horizontal barrage of Brimstone Hellblasts

• Launches 2 Brimstone Gigablasts

• Charges 4 times (2 times in the second phase)

• Launches 2 Brimstone Gigablasts

• Shoots a horizontal barrage of Brimstone Hellblasts

• Shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts

• Charges 2 times (once in the second phase)

• Shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts

• Shoots a horizontal barrage of Brimstone Hellblasts

• Launches 4 Brimstone Gigablasts

• Shoots a horizontal barrage of Brimstone Hellblasts

• Charges 2 times (once in the second phase)

• Shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts

• Launches 4 Brimstone Gigablasts

• Charges 4 times (2 times in the second phase)

• Shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts

• Charges 2 times (once in the second phase)

• Shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts

• Charges 2 times (once in the second phase)

Note that every time she shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts, some bursts are replaced by Brimstone Fire- and Gigablasts.

Since it is a relatively long cycle with multiple occurences of every type of attack, it is time consuming to fully memorize and comprehend it. Whilst it is not necessary to do so, it proves beneficial when playing in harder difficulties and/or with special constraints, like the Iron Heart, Defiled Feather or Armageddon.

Progression:

Supreme Calamitas will perform these attacks once, triggered by her reaching certain amounts of health.

• Upon spawning, she will summon a randomized “Bullet Hell” of vertical and horizontal Brimstone Hellblasts which travel from one edge of the player’s screen to the other. She will be invincible and immobile until the Bullet Hell ends. The sequence of the Hellblasts’ direction will always be the same during the Bullet Hell.

After the Bullet Hell ends, she will teleport to the upper-right corner of the arena and summon the Sepulcher to assist her before becoming mobile. Ten immobile Brimstone Hearts will spawn along with it, positioned in the upper corners of the arena. When the last of these hearts are destroyed, the Sepulcher will die. The Sepulcher doesn’t deal contact damage but instead shoots bursts of Brimstone Darts in diagonal directions from its body segments (in descending order; from last to first segment). Supreme Calamitas will be invincible until the Sepulcher is killed.

• While the Sepulcher is alive, Supreme Calamitas will shoot slower and only fire half as many projectiles per attack.

• Upon reaching 75% health, the second Bullet Hell triggers, in which Brimstone Fireblasts are also fired at the player from offscreen. This occurs in every Bullet Hell hereafter.

• Upon reaching 50% health, the third Bullet Hell triggers, in which Brimstone Gigablasts are also fired at the player along with the previous projectiles. This occurs in every Bullet Hell hereafter.

• Upon reaching 45% health, she will pause briefly and then summon her brothers, Supreme Catastrophe and Supreme Cataclysm, to assist her. Supreme Calamitas will be invincible and immobile while they are alive. They both remain a set distance to the left and right of the player, slowly moving up and down. Supreme Cataclysm is on the right and will fire fists at the player, and Supreme Catastrophe is on the left and will fire slashes at the player. Both will periodically shoot bursts of Brimstone Darts around themselves; their fire rate for all attacks goes up as they lose health. When one of the brothers is killed, the other will shoot his respective projectile and Brimstone Darts even more frequently, and will move up and down faster. When both brothers are killed, Supreme Calamitas immediately resumes attacking the player.

• Upon reaching 40% health, she laughs and transitions into her second phase, signified by a glowing aura around her and her attack animations becoming more pronounced. From now on, she will attack faster, but perform half as many charge attacks in a row. Immediately after transitioning, she will always shoot several bursts of Brimstone Darts before resuming her attack cycle from the last position.

• From this point on, her force field will visibly start flickering, with the intensity of the flickering growing as she loses health.

• Upon reaching 30% health, the fourth Bullet Hell triggers, and Supreme Calamitas will summon massive invincibleBrimstone Monsters which move towards the player at varying speeds and persist throughout the rest of the fight (they despawn after 10 minutes, but the fight does not last this long under normal circumstances). The Monsters do not interact and can stack on top of each other.

• In Normal Mode, they will not spawn.

• In Expert Mode, two will spawn.

• In Revengeance and Death Mode, four will spawn.

• Upon reaching 20% health, she will summon a large rotating ring of 20 Supreme Soul Seekers around herself, which fire synchronous volleys of Brimstone Darts at the player. Supreme Calamitas is invulnerable to damage and the Brimstone Monsters move slower until the Soul Seekers are killed.

• Upon reaching 10% health, the fifth and final Bullet Hell triggers, featuring every projectile introduced thus far, with the inclusion of Brimstone Flame Skulls which fly in a wave pattern. Her damage reduction increases by 20% (from 25% to 30%) for the remainder of the battle.

• Upon reaching 8% health, she will summon the Sepulcher and its 10 Brimstone Hearts again. Supreme Calamitas will once again become invulnerable until its hearts are killed.

• Upon reaching 1% health, she will lose all her other abilities, the Brimstone Monsters will disappear, she will stop moving, she will no longer inflict contact damage, and she becomes invulnerable. After several status messages and a delay, Supreme Calamitas will vanish in a beam of red light and reappear at the Altar of the Accursed as the Brimstone Witch NPC, leaving her loot at the Altar.
