*Fuck J. Cole* that nigga is straight up overrated garbage. I will say his mixtapes were great especially the warm up and I liked his first two albums but thats where it ends for me, His lyricism is only slightly above average and yes im aware of the great lines hes capable of spitting but his lyrics aren’t amazing overall they are just decent, his rhyme scheme is basic and reminds me of canibus and he’s as deep as a fortune from a fortune cookie. I feel like he never takes risks And his fans think having a “certain level of intelligence” is a necessary pre-requisite to listen to or even critique his music is very laughable to me as most of his music is surface level when it comes to meanings. Sure he’s went double platinum with no features but now thats like the main thing his fans say like shut the fuck up we get it already.
I listen to a plethora of hip hop artists in multiple sub-genres within it and at the end of the day Cole is just average yet placed so high on a pedestal just because he enunciates and normally raps over nostalgic sounding production compared to his contemporaries.
